We all love taking the horses out locally, but the best part of owning a horse is the opportunities for adventure. Luckily, the United States is full of horse-friendly outdoor recreation areas perfect for the occasional day trip or longer vacation. We are producing a series to bring you information about the horse-friendly parks, campgrounds, and trails across the United States.

Take Kansas exit 53 in Colby, KS – travel 9 miles north on Kansas Highway 25 – The farm is on the west side of the road and has a complete perimeter fence for the safety of the horses – Watch for the white pipe fence! Facilities: Home on the Range Bed and Breakfast – heated barn with 10 14′ x 14′ stalls – indoor riding arena – wash bay – 60′ solid round pen with 17% vertical slope to save your knees – 10 inside/outside stalls with 48′ runs/pens – camper hook-ups and overnight parking – We also have outside pens. 185 acre facility – Complete artificial insemination vet lab – heated breeding barn with wash bay and 4 24′ x 12′ foaling stalls – 24 hours supervision – large outdoor riding arena. We have a large turn around area which accommodates all size vehicles. Mostly we offer mid-west hospitality for horses and people too! Users: Hike, bike, horse Prairie Dog State Park and Norton Wildlife Area Box 431 Norton, KS 67654 913-877-2953 Seven-mile trail Description: Creek, woodlands, prairie and croplands. Eisenhower State Park and Milvern Wildlife Area RR 2 Box 306 Osage City, KS 66523 913-528-4102 Descriptions: grasslands, woods, wetlands and croplands 22 miles of horseback trails. Season: open year-round
